Yesterday I tried until midnight to compile and test the 32-bit driver
on an external USB disk, no way, I can't do a proper install on a
Maverick 32-bit cd (gnome) on a usb disk as I did with the 64-bit. Even
the 32-bit usb image created by the standard ubuntu install
duplicated my bug here -- same symptom and dpkg-reconfigure -a still
broken.

There is something that has been bothering me for a while now: e-d-a-z
verbose may be a "hint of what is the availability, but not necessarily
current". That's OK, any measures on a dynamic system are by definition
outdated at the moment of measurement.
The point is 'e-d-a-z verbose' should behave

This is a proposing enhancenment for find dialog, in this case should

This is a little bit of work, but judging from the duplicate tickets
this is a problem for a few people, and I haven't been able to trigger
this behavior yet. So if somone could try the following:
