The display is dimmed automatically now, when the plug is pulled. Battery life

I confirm the bug for the latest version under ubuntu 8.10. It is very
annoying, especially when you use a number of filters to distribute
mails to the appropriate folders. Please solve this as soon as possible

Using 8.04 I managed my iPod using amarok. I had the eject command
tweaked to allow non-root user. At 8.10 this does not work anymore,
amarok fails to eject. So I switch to my desktop and right-click the

I can confirm this behaviour on a thinkpad x40. the .Xmodmap is applied
on boot, but plugging in a USB keyboard (in this case an IBM W20-06) the
settings don't get applied to the hotplugged keyboard (but remain

After upgrading to Intrepid (while in Gnome), I started a KDE session.
The Upgrade Manager said "435 Upgrades Available", so I clicked it. The
upgrade got hung up a couple of times, one of them wanting a root user
password for MySQL. then crashed.
This is a problem of the pdftoraster filter which is provided by the
cups package in Intrepid.

Based on this jaunty changelog entry, I guess this is not an issue for
jaunty:
* debian/pulseaudio.preinst: When upgrading from intrepid, remove
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio, as this was used to minimize a race
condition when starting GNOME in intrepid. This race should not exist in

This happens to me also with the vnc protocol. When I connect using the
Terminal Server Client the desktop hangs as soon as the client window appears.
If I kill tsclient within a terminal (opening the terminal with a keyboard
shortcut ), the desktop resumes and the vncviewer window works too.

I had a similar problem to Troy after installing Andy's patch - almost
gave up and went back to Hardy - but found that after a reboot (I had
been killing the X-server after each change) both screens were working
as expected.
I have also found that trying to access 'display' crashes the control

Many thanks Bernhard. I am answering through Google´s Gmail in
WindowsXP,SP2. I just unloaded SP2 at 526KB/s speed, so I have to
discard the connection as the origin of the Firefox slownees jn
Ubuntu.
Next time I open Ubuntu, I shall install Opera as per your advice.
