After upgrading to kernel 2.6.24-18-generic I still wasn't able to make
a connection.
When I boot with kernel 2.6.24-16, then System->Hardwaredrivers shows the
following information:
No proprietary drivers are in use on this system

I believe that this problem is caused by the DefaultDepth parameter in
the xorg.conf
sudo vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I had a similar problem in 8.04 with a Plextor PX-W2410TA CD burner
manufactured in October 2001. Nautilus would not recognize a blank CD. I
could burn using either CD/DVD creator or Brasero, but Brasero produced
a "could not eject" error. This drive was working perfectly with 6.10.
The workaround
Menu items are self-descriptive so don't need a description unlike icons
which have no way to determine what they are. Feel free to report the
bug to official openoffice.org if you think they will actually fix this,
since there really is no bug here.

I just copied /lib/modules/2.6.24-17-generic/misc/vboxdrv.ko to
/lib/modules/2.6.24-18-generic/misc/vboxdrv.ko and everything works fine now.
Then run depmod so you can just type 'modprobe vboxdrv'.

Fresh HDD install of Xubuntu 8.04 confirms off-colors for all text
inside window as well as boarders and double scroll-bars on right-hand

Using xterm for now... but
I have the same problem as the first post, and then I downloaded and
unzipped apt-file - 2.0.8.2ubuntu3 to my computer, and try to replace
the apt-file - 2.0.8.2ubuntu2 with it. But either I used "sudo apt-get
apt-file" or "sudo apt-get update", but the apt-file seems still apt-
file - 2.0.8.2ubunt
Hmm, reopening, translations were not imported from Rosetta after all
(or not working correctly). Downloaded http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/hardy
/daily-live/20080606/hardy-desktop-i386.iso , the manual partitioning
screen is mostly English, simlar to before.

This also kills transfers of AVI files and must be killed at the console
