After upgrading to kernel 2.6.24-18-generic I still wasn't able to make a connection.
When I boot with kernel 2.6.24-16, then System->Hardwaredrivers shows the following information: No proprietary drivers are in use on this system Underneath in the messagebox : Device driver Ralink RT2570 usb 802.11g WLAN driver 1.0.0-CVS2008042800 is in use With kernels -17 and -18 the messagebox is empty.
