i have the same problem here with ubuntu 8.04 x86 desktop edition.
only one core is viewed by the kernel as reported by /proc/cpuinfo or monitor
application.

This isn't a bug. Your /boot partition is way too small. You need to make it
bigger. There is a partitioning tool on the livecd called gparted that can
resize your partitions without destroying your data.
OR, you could stop using a separate /boot partition altogether. This is a bit
tricky.

I can verify this bug in Hardy Heron Kubuntu 8.04. It is caused by the
network shutdown script running before the cifs mount is unmounted. The
system hangs for a while waiting for cifs unmount timeout. This has been

I can confirm the behavior, using vnc4server and tightvnc client on
Windows.
Interestingly, when I start the process as a normal user (e.g. su -

I am having the same problem with hardy on amd64. When I am plugged in,
I get 2333MHz (which is right). When I am not plugged in, my laptop
always gets the lowest available frequency (1000MHz in my case).

I'm also having the "CCMP: decrypt failed" error with Ubuntu 8.04 and a laptop
Dell D610, using ipw2200 with WPA2-PSK + AES + DHCP.
furthermore, I'd like to point out that the wifi connection never goes

Just letting you know that I have moved back to Gutsy and have had no
crashes for a week now, so the problem is most likely something with
Hardy. I will go through the other checks you listed anyway and let you
know if there is a problem.

real time kernel. I was using Ubuntu Studio, so I would have been using
the real time kernel.

I can confirm this intermittently on Hardy with a Dell XPS M1210 with
IWL3945.
If I issue
sudo ifdown eth0
then wireless comes up, but the network manager applet shows the "wired
network" icon.
