I have the same card and the same symptoms, especially with the firefox
scrolling, but the workaround works for me.
Depending on the driver you're using, or if you installed it with envy
or the restricted drivers manager, you need either "nvidia" or
"nvidia_new" as the driver name in nvi
Another piece for the puzzle: Apparently, if I shut down all network
related services (NIS, NTP, NFS/automounter) prior to initiating
shutdown from within KDE, the machines are much more likely to
successfully shut down. No idea why.

It seems so. Official kernel from version 2.6.24-13 moved to newer PATA
modules. It seems that they work correctly for some people (for example
take a look at bug 181561 - it was the reason to swich to PATA modules)
but sadly these modules don't work for others (including us). It seems
as some kind
clean install fixed it.

It seems I have a slightly different behaviour on hardy: I still have
the messages above in /var/log/message, but then the computer
completely freezes. I can only hard-reboot to get out of it. This
appenned to me 3-4 times since the official hardy release.

After further kernel compilation and testing I have managed to compile
the latest ubuntu kernel and got it to work.
It turns out the config option CPU_IDLE (CPU idle PM Support) was causing my
issues.

As an addendum, we've upped the memory on this box to 6GB and need a PAE
kernel. Working backward, the 2.6.22 server kernel from gutsy doesn't
boot, but 2.6.20-15.27 server bigiron from feisty does; that's what the
server's going back in its rack with pending a proper fix for a 2.6.24
(or later) ke
It happened after the restart when I went from Gutsy to Hardy. I was
opening up various programs and cking the settings and to see what was
new or changed. When I noticed the crash icon there were no open
programs-sys was idle. It has worked fine since. Unrelated but Rhythmbox
has been giving me so

1) installed nautilus-dbgsym like described in

2) relaunched nautilus
3) attached a gdb to nautilus, change gdb options as said in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace
4) went to ~/tmp with nautilus, click
I fixed James' patch (changelog: hardy-proposed, and he forgot to add
the patch to debian/patches/00list), sponsored it, and accepted it into
hardy-proposed. Can you please test the package in hardy-proposed and
give feedback here? Thanks!

Right, but jockey's purpose is to do that for you, since installing

I have already sold my old laptop and bought a new one with an nvidia graphics
chipset. However, I am curious, will this fix be slipstreamed into the iso
image? How will potential new users know how to get a viewable screen?
