I have the latest kernel&driver from hardy-proposed, and there is no change : "I have had this problem in totem and vlc, with vlc only having trouble after it happened in totem." It seems to me that Totem/GStreamer change something on the xv settings, and not other players. My card is an Nvidia 8600GT on hardy 32bits with restricted driver.
