In restricted-manager we now support installing firmware for bcm43xx. It
would be nice to enable the module without the need for rebooting. For
that I absolutely want to avoid rmmod bcm43xx, though. Although it
should be relatively safe

1) My arts was not working at all. I had to remove ~/.asound* and restart arts
to get it to work (see

tried renaming downloads.rdf as wombat suggested, but it made no
difference - same symptoms, and a new downloads.rdf file was NOT created
by firefox.

The setting of the default printer should be done by the printer setup
tool. It seems that gnome-cups-manager does only set a default printer
if the user explicitly demands it. gnome-cups-manager is not maintained
upstream any more and will be replaced, most probably by printerdrake:
