I just ran the installation a second time, and it
worked. I think the hard drive had to be partitioned
before the installation as Ubuntu seemed to have a
problem with the partitioning.

I have HL-1430 and Edgy.
The printer will print once and then I have to unplug the USB cable and
replug it to get the printer to print remaining jobs.
I note that some people report that this is fixed, but no one tells us

Thanks for the advice. I've since managed to get Edgy installed on the
pc, so I don't think I had a conformable bug.
I've had similar flakiness with Debian/Grub before - maybe it's just

I agree. I remember there had to be a 3rd party repo set up for edgy
that had mtp support compiled in, which causes all sorts of problems.
Best if it's just done right the first time in main. And since libmtp
is in main, there's no problem there.

You're correct, I bet Amarok does perform a bit poorly with 18,000
songs, since it's using the sqlite database backend by default. If
you're dissatisfied with sqlite's performance, I'd recommend trying out
mysql. There are instructions available at

I can't say i've had the same problem, but without steps to reproduce i
think this is going to be near impossible to pin-point.
The rythmbox database is locate
/home/$USER/.gnome2/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml . It is possible that the
xml file has become malformed; you may be able to recover your feeds

Unlike Ubuntu, "Keyboard Preferences -> Shortcuts" in Xubuntu does not
accept a keyboard binding to keys not detected by xorg. This has fixed
in upstream in trunk at http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2503 .
I hope it can be merged into feisty.
