Hi. I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and I have the same problem. The laptop model
is Acer TravelMate 2410. I tried enabling the drivers from Atheros in
the Hardware Drivers appication but it doesn't fix the problem. In my

The 18 month support period for Feisty Fawn 7.04 has reached its end of life
some months ago.
As a result, we are closing the linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20 task.
It would be helpful if you could test the new Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release
and confirm if this issue remains -

Just another quick test I did: I screw off my antenna, my signal goes
"up" and after that I loose my connection.

I also noticed the strange signal behaviour and sudden disconnects. I
compared the strength of several accesspoints nearby and it looks like
madwifi or network manager reverses the signal strength. Under Windows I
usually have nearly 100% and under Ubuntu nearly 0%, and disconnects
when it hits 0%.
The low signal reading is actually a known problem with the madwifi
drivers (used for the atheros chips). Madwifi reports their signal can
go all the way up to 94, when in reality it goes up to (something like)
60. This is "fixed" in the gnome-network-preferences tool, which adjusts

I can now connect and stay connected after I deleted the atheros module and

I am having a similar problem on my T60 running Ubuntu 7.10 Tribe 4.
My wireless card is ...

I cannot get a connection, and my signal is only about ~70 percent right

The difference between Feisty and Debian Etch is that in both the signal

I ran the command as su, without errors.
I have had the connection up only 10mins now, the connection dropped only once
in this time... (actually very soon after I made a connection with the wireless
AP)
I guess this workaround has worked for me, should Madwifi be contacted about
this?
