re #13: the problem isn't the low signal reading displayed by network manager; the problem is that people report the connection doesn't work more than a few feet from the access point. So while there may be a problem with the display of the signal level, there really truly is something wrong with the signal, too!
bug 399983 looks like the same problem on Ubuntu 9.04 on a Asus K50IN notebook. http://www.examiner.com/x-9438-SF-Business-Tech-Examiner~y2009m8d19-Adventures-with-Linux-in-business is a very public report of the same problem on Ubuntu 9.04 on a MSI Wind U123 (where the problem goes away in ms windows xp). Both of those laptops seem to use atheros. This looks like a longstanding problem; see also bug 69709 and http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-489646.html Given the very public flogging of Ubuntu because of this bug in today's Examiner, I'm nominating this bug for Jaunty and Karmic. -- atheros wifi card drop connection and low signal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
