jdriessen, hello, I've found something that may help you but I'm not
sure, as my connection is working fine now, just low signal but no drops
like before.

I've read NetworkManager applet searchs for wifi networks while you are
connected and madwifi drivers have a bug that disables current
connection if you search for other wifis, so you could try to run a
command which disables the search in background, just run as root and
try if your connection still drops.

#iwpriv ath0 bgscan 0

If you have more wifi devices, change ath0 for the one you have...if
your device doesn't support the command, it will give an error, I've
tried in mine and it didn't give an error but I don't know if it works
because as I said, it is working fine now.

If you try it and helps, please, lets say it here.

PD: Maybe disabling NetworkManager helps too.
