This feature of the Windows driver has advantages and disadvantages. If
you need to send a letter quickly and run out of black ink, you can
still print the letter. The bad thing is that you do not perceive that
you run out of black ink and you get very expensive printouts with black

After examining some of the printouts that were performed on my wife's
Windows machine, I noticed that text was not true black. Apparently,
something in Windows tells the printer to print black text with the
color cartridge when the black ink runs out. Linux doesn't do this,
hence the odd behavio
The
[cups-driverd] Bad driver information file
"/usr/share/cups/drv/sample.drv"!
has no influence on that (and it is fixed in Maverick).
Have you already tried the different settings of the PrintoutMode and
Quality options?

I'm not sure what update specifically caused this issue. However, this
printer is connected directly to my Ubuntu machine, but is shared on the
network. My wife's Windows machine can print to it perfectly, but my
Ubuntu machine has this issue. From my understanding, each machine
using this print

The black cartridge works under Windows. Also, this model of printer
will show the ink level when the door is open. It says the color ink is
lower than the black.
Cycling the power did not help.
I tried reconfiguring the driver and received the message:
[cups-driverd] Bad driver informat
The test print looks like that no pure black (ink from black cartridge)
gets printed. Are you sure that your black cartridge is not empty? You
can check ink levels running the command
hp-levels
in a terminal window.
Note also that the update you mentioned did not change the driver for
your print
I've included a test print that I scanned in. Notice the word Ubuntu is
missing from the top.
