This feature of the Windows driver has advantages and disadvantages. If you need to send a letter quickly and run out of black ink, you can still print the letter. The bad thing is that you do not perceive that you run out of black ink and you get very expensive printouts with black mixed out of the three color inks. The Windows driver should give a warning when this happens. This is even worse if you already have a new black cartridge to replace the old one. So Linux saves you from getting into this cost trap.
