I am pretty certain this is due to interaction with keyring in my case.
I cd'ed into .gnome and rm -rf keyrings and restart the machine, re-
enters the password, workgroup, it works again on 10.04.

I checked my samba server and it already had that workgroup setting
defined and set correctly. There must be something more to it than that.
Most of the users work fine but it seems randomly some users just act
up. This is all on an LTSP server with the samba server virtualized on
the same hardwar
I will give that a try for my domain as well.
Thanks greg.

The following change to samba config file (etc/samba/smb.conf) fixed this
problem for me mounting windows shares.
Change workgroup to your domain.

I can also confirm that this bug only seems to happen when there is a
keyring saved. I have an unencrypted keyring for these users so they
don't have to enter the password each time, if I delete the keyring I
don't see this bug.
Why oh why does Ubuntu have to have some many stupid quirks!!

I did a clean installation of Lucid 10.04 a month or more ago. This
installation had and has no problems connecting to Windows shares. I
have not updated it.
I did another installation yesterday and patched it with all available
updates. This installation cannot connect to Windows shares. The

A clean reinstall is an unacceptable solution in a large corporate
environment. Breaking both the upgrade path and the ability to interact
freely with Windows clients on a network is a sure and quick way to be

Tried Gonzalo's fix to no avail.
My system is a Toshiba L305-S5919 laptop (came with Vista Home Basic which I

Couple things got broke, but this "Cannot connect to / browse Windows Shares"

I have been having issues with windows shares since 9.04 (and now in

Try adding the following lines to /etc/samba/smb.conf, after the line

This is a show stopper as it prevents integrating Ubuntu into Windows
networks. Windows has no trouble seeing and actioning the Ubuntu shares
but to actually login to the Windows Shares is impossible. I've been
trying for days to acheive this and followed

Same here: with a password in Seahorse it doesn't work. Samba share
without password protection mount fine. Password protected Samba shares
don't mount and produce the error.

I also have this problem on 10.04 beta in Nautilus 2.30.
I read somewhere it might have something to do with a gnome keyring.
I get this error:

That seems to be right, because if I mount a sha
Also apport picks up a "Problem in gvfs-backends" and says the program
crashed on an assertion failure and that apport does not support
reporting these crashes. I think this could be related to bug #530605.
