Tried Gonzalo's fix to no avail. My system is a Toshiba L305-S5919 laptop (came with Vista Home Basic which I obliterated). Fresh installed 9.04, then upgraded to 9.10, then upgraded (?) to 10.04. Couple things got broke, but this "Cannot connect to / browse Windows Shares" bug is killing me. This is definitely NOT a LOW-PRIORITY bug. It is, as Tony Aude noted above, a real show-stopper for people like me that must work in a Windows environment, but prefer to do it from a realiable platform.
In the past (9.04, 9.10) I could bring a file from any Windows box to my laptop in a jiffy; now, I have to remote control the box, then put the file in a place that I have access to from Ubuntu, then, finally, bring it in via, for example, FTP. A real time waster. Being mostly a newbie to Ubuntu, I tried two options: 1- Places -> Connect to Server... -> (enter details) -> Connect -> (insert password) -> Connect 2- In a terminal window, typed "nautilus smb://<username>@<IP>/<share>" (replacing words between "<>" with actual connection data) Both attempts spit the same error with a useless OK button: "Cannot display location "smb://<username>@<IP>/<share>/"" Failed to mount Windows share. Please, please, please: Fix this issue. But please, please, please, please, please, please, do it soon. Thanks. -- cant browse/mount windows shares in nautilus 10.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/544847 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
