Just wanted to report the the new .13 kernel works perfectly in the Dell
Mini 9 ... wired internet now works and I am sending this via the wired
ethernet.

As I suspected, you both have the Realtek RTL8101/RTL8102E card:

I should explain that I am using the Wicd network manager rather than
the Ubuntu one. It was initially part of debugging to change the
network manager. Wicd is way easier and more powerful than the Gnome
version. Works great with Gnome

I have made the logs you requested and I discovered an interesting
thing.
Dell provides an utility for Ubuntu to disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or both
(Airplane mode). In order to get the logs, I disabled Wi-Fi (Bluetooth
was already disabled, although I think it is quite irrelevant, I note it

Hi Ian,
Can you attach your lspci output so we can see which Ethernet card and
driver you have?
sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log
Additionally, can you also capture and attach your dmesg output after
you've booted with the 2.6.27-11 kernel?

Thanks for confirming it. Until the kernel gets fixed I am keeping
both the install disk's kernel and the current updated one.If I am
trapped with only wired internet, I can just boot to the old kernel ...
everything is workable still.
