Hi everyone, first time I have ever posted to a forum (not that you
needed to know that). This sound issue, I think it is safe to say, seems
to truly be a bug.
My problem: no sound in flash after updating to 32bit Ubuntu 8.10. Flash
sound worked fine in my previous 32bit version.

Changing from 'Confirmed' to 'Incomplete'. We've yet to find a
reproducible bug from this forest of symptoms. I can appreciate your
frustration (it happens to me, too), so let's finish ruling out missing
packages and misconfigurations.

extrasound package seemed to have done the trick.

Same problem here.
Running Ubuntu 8.10
Audio seem to work fine only with ALSA, but nothing comes from flash plugin
(using adobe-non free, latest version).
Downloading the same video with youtube-dl and playing it with totem works
perfectly.
I have both an Audigy 2 ZS and an embedded card.

Okay I just tried disabling the built in sound card in my BIOS and wow,
everything works now. There must have been some conflict I couldn't
find. In 8.04 I never had a problem but this fixed it in 8.10...
I can now set sound to ALSA or PulseAudio and it's all good. Thanks for
the help!
