I thought that I should put this bug to rest once and for all. Kubuntu
16.04.01 starts OK from an USB stick and I imagine it will install too.
Since I have another working system, I will not test any further. I
consider this unfortunate bug solved one way or another.

I installed Kubuntu 16.04.1 in Japanese.
As a result, Kubuntu that was installed was able to start up normally.

I have a new installation of KDE neon as based on the Kubuntu 16.04 LTS.
As a result, KDE neon is started successfully.
I think there is improvement, even Kubuntu from this result, after I was live
started in Kubuntu 16.04 ISO,
also put the following command in Konsole:
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo a
I can confirm this is related to llvm bug (at least in my case) and
seems to happen on i7 skylake (6th generation). I have 16.04 live image
installed on usb and had the same problem - illegal instruction in
plasma. I managed to solve this simply by updating libllvm3.8 from
1:3.8-2ubuntu1 to 1:3.8-2
I have no chance to tick any alternatives. The Installation never starts. Thus
there are no installation logs either.
As I posted in comment 30 I suspect the bug is related to this one:

The problem is that it never achieves the installation step, it crashes

Removed the duplicate marker. The translation issue only appears once
you are already in the installer sequence. But for that you at least
need to get a working Live Session first.

I downloaded Kubuntu once more and run the installer and it crashed
exactly like before. It is still impossible to install Kubuntu. So

version? dpkg status of plasma-desktop is rc and there is no way to
change it because it conflicts with language and other files. That
problem actually appeared already in one of the previous releases, but
misteriously disappear

I'm having this issue right after Kubuntu boots from a USB, before I get
the ability to install kubuntu plasma crashes. I've attached the

substituted IT for NL but the system complained that packages were

I can confirm this is a problem on my system too. I have booted to the
16.04 LTS release ISO on a USB stick, and I get three separate Plasma
crash screens, all invalid instruction exceptions.
System details: Asus H110M-A motherboard, 16GB RAM, Intel core i3,
Nvidia GTX950.

I was to proceed with the installation in English, was able to start up
properly.
But I installed under the same conditions in 日本語(Japanese). As a result

So, I retested the final images (20160420.1) in both Virtualbox and on
my nvidia optimus notebook.
The virtualbox session crashes the install/live session screen (known
issue) and threw me into a fully functional plasma session. While
kubuntu-desktop is indeed not installed, the installation itsel
I have now tested the final 16.04 ISO. The problem remains, making
Kubuntu uninstallable.
I should perhaps have mentioned earlier that I use the 64-bit ISO:s.

I can partly reproduce this from an earlier Virtualbox installation.
After update Kubuntu started and plasma-desktop was still installed.
kubuntu-desktop was however missing and by installing it a bunch of
other packages was reinstalled too. So perhaps the latest plasma removed
vital packages.

Correction, downgrading to plasma-desktop-data_5.5.4-0ubuntu1_all.deb
made the pop-up go away, and I could start plasmashell again. However,
my panel was still messed up and clicking kickoff produced an error.
I then noticed that plasma-desktop was not installed (showed rc in dpkg
-l), so I manual

the problem for me.

I have downloaded the latest daily build of Kubuntu (20160419) and put
the ISO on my thumb drive. The same plasma crashes. The good thing is
that if booting from USB I am able to reach the console via ALT+CTRL+F2.
The bad thing is that startx does not work. There is just another crash
message: "All
Sorry, but ALT+CTRL+F2 takes me nowhere. Just a blinking prompt with no
possibility to issue any commands. No virtual console. Therefore I can't
startx or reach /var/log/.
I have a discrete Nvidia card, desktop, and Intel graphics on my laptop.

will be better than nothing.

I cannot reproduce this exactly. I had one computer that would not boot
to an X environement. But was able to startx. Nvidia card. Installed on
computer with Intel card no problem.
In short, we need those logs to be able to get anywhere on this bug.
