I have downloaded the latest daily build of Kubuntu (20160419) and put the ISO on my thumb drive. The same plasma crashes. The good thing is that if booting from USB I am able to reach the console via ALT+CTRL+F2. The bad thing is that startx does not work. There is just another crash message: "All shell packages missing. This is an installation issue, please contact your distribution". Sounds kind of bad...
