The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

Hi again!
You can mark it as fixed now I guess.
Today I found a solution to this "bug." It turns out that the high pitch sound
can be (and in my case it was) the result of CPU trying to save power.
The whole thing is described here:

Hi!
Today I discovered something new. The combination which causes the
beeping is: enabled speedsteping + 2.6.22-14-generic kernel. If I
disable the speedsteping, generic kernel works fine.
2.6.22-14-386 kernel works fine and it doesn't seem to care whether
speedsteping is enabled or disabled. Th
Today I downloaded hardy kernel again. I am not sure if it's different
than the one which is on the hardy 2 alpha cd or not but it might be
since hardy 3 was released. Anyway... I've done some more tests and now
I'm 99.9% sure that there's a link between speedsteping and the beeping
sound. Does any

Hi!
I tested with alpha 2 live cd and the sound is still there.
I executed the commands you asked me to execute and am now including the
results as attachments.
NOTE the commands were executed while the computer was running on hardy alpha 2
live cd.
As for the sound itself, I have a very low qu
The Hardy Heron Alpha2 release should be out tomorrow (Dec 20). If you
can please test one more time with the Alpha2 LiveCD that would be much
appreciated. I'll update this report once it is available. If the
noise still exists, can you please describe it in more detail?? Does it
occur only on

That's strange because as I said, for me 2.6.22-14-386 works just fine.

Hi!
I installed linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic from packages.ubuntu.com and
did one 'test session' with it. The problem seemed to be still there.
The beeping was a bit different but it was present.

Hi
Fr Ch, I seem to have managed to fix the problem by using Gutsy's 386
kernel. Still, this is not an ideal solution for me as I am now unable
to use both of my CPU cores.
The bug we're discussing here seems to be quite rare. I've looked around
a bit and I have found no reports of a similar prob

Fr Ch, if you want to set the power management level the command has to
