The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

Hello all,
I gave up trying to fix the previous installation, and I had to reinstall
feisty from scratch, this time taking notes of all passes.
The good news is that now sound works well like before updating. Although I
really have no idea of the reason it presented such a strange behavior, I
just run gutsy gibbon herd 1 "live" and sound works perfect..
i will install it tomorrow for feedback..

Unfortunately this time I was too much "optimistic" as:

Hi Roberto,

same linux kernel (2.6.20-16-generic).
I've got sound with my laptop. I mean:

- sound is loud (same as with windows vista)
- internal speaker aren't switched off when I plug in he

Thanks Udo,
I did a mistake: I paste the old config (before to patch).
The correct one is:
# cat /proc/asound/oss/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.14rc3 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux coinovo 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Wed May 23 01:46:23 UTC 2007 i686
Config options: 0
Installed driver
Your output from aplay -l shows that you are still using an old version
of alsa (ALSA v1.0.14rc1) whereas the most recent version is 1.0.14rc4.
So I can only guess that you did not (correctly) update your alsa
installation (including the patch available from the alsa bugtracker).

Similar or same hardware (code is FGG instead of FEG), same problem.
What I have:
- options for module hda_intel is: position_fix=1 model=3stack
- tested other option combinations with no success (tried probe_mask=8 with no
success)
- disabling acpi but ht makes the sound work clear and loud, b
Theres a howto here
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Lenovo3000C200_89224MG that
should get your sound working. (scroll down to notes) Its a different
model to yours but the same card I believe.
I've also made a script and pre-patched the necessary file if your not

Turning off ACPI did not solve the issue for me (=the OP).
And BTW, turning off ACPI on a laptop is more than a bad idea (battery
and thermal management is turned off then as well).

turning acpi off makes the sound to work. Just add acpi=ht in the boot
parameters. You can do it in the /boot/grub/menu.lst file
