with the uvcvideo module as opposed to the patched gspca modulue.

Hi. I started using a new cam...Gigaware. Shows up in lsusb as: Bus 002
Device 006: ID 0c45:62e0 Microdia
I was unable to get the cam working. I tried the gspca-source in the
repos and loaded gspca_main. Finally removed the module and instead
compiled and patch the driver found at actionshrimp:

I am not entirely sure. Occasionally, the kernel message is: wlan0: duplicate
address detected!
And no connection is established. I have to manually bring down the interface
then request a new address.

ok. I'm very sorry and this is embarrassing. Apparently I used the volume
buttons on the keyboard to turn the sound down. I do not know why this doesn't
transpose to the volume manager, nor why pcm is gone in alsamixer.
Discovered the problem after re-installing alpha6 and the problem remained.

new linux image with updates today included 2.6.27.4. The problem
persists. I have tried several boot options to no avail, and oddly boot
options do not seem to affect whether the applications works in the
earlier kernel...it just works.

modules are non-free, and not necessarily included as part of the
release, but instead are user added.

Ok. I was finally able to resolve this problem to some extent.
Cleaned up dmesg greatly by adding "lapic" to the kernel line in kernels
2.6.22-14 and 2.6.24-12.
Also changed a config setting for cpu to "custom" in the system bios.
Finally ran "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg.
