The awful login sound played.

I've got this problem, too, on a Thinkpad T60. Poking any of the three
volume buttons (they're in the upper-left of the keyboard) neither
changes the volume, nor brings up the on-screen display.
Changing the volume via the little speaker icon on the tray, though,
works fine.

I've noticed (by running "htop") a number of processes whose state is "D" --
uninterruptible sleep. This is unusual. A few of them are gpg.

This is the best stack trace I've been able to get (I commented out the
"dh_strip" line in debian/rules, set the environment variable
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS to "nostrip noopt", and did "fakeroot make -f
debian/rules clean binary". I haven't yet figured out how to statically
link it, though.

This is a Lenovo Thinkpad T60, running 8.04 "Hardy", which I installed "clean"
from the CD.
Briefly: every time I suspend and then resume, the network doesn't work. By
which I mean: typing "ifconfig" at the prompt shows me just the "lo" interface,
not the "wlan0" interface
For what it's worth, I upgraded last night and things seem better now.

/etc/resolv.conf file unwritable by doing "chattr +i
/etc/resolv.conf". (I did this to avoid an unrelated problem: my DHCP
