I think I have the same bug.
I use Xubuntu 19.10.
When the screen locks, mouse and keyboard events will lake me to the
unlock screen. Password is accepted, but screen never shows the
desktop. I can log out and log in again to restore the desktop, but of
course this closes all applications.

Hi, thanks for helping me out.
No, the HDMI was not plugged in -- nor ever has been. I'm using a
laptop and the sound output should have been the built-in audio. After
I upgraded the system, it once (and only once) wanted to run all the
output through the HDMI, resulting in no audio at all. Aft

Just found this bug report and wanted to chime in. I have a Packard
Bell r-series easy note with an Intel Celeron M processor. It is in
fine working order, except for the lack of PAE support. It cannot boot
Ubuntu 12:04 or any *buntu family 12:10.
Shame to have the machine obsoleted for me...

As the description says, I have just updated to 12.04, Precise Xubuntu
and when I fire up Gimp, the 'toolbox' and 'layers' dialogues are always
available on all workspaces.
Most annoying!

I also have this but in Xubuntu 11:10 (also my first go at using
Xubuntu, so cannot comment on the longevity of the bug). The keyboard
shortcut I like to use is 'both shift keys together'. I am also happy
(for now) to simply click the icon, as this still changes my layouts

cpu-intensive activities which shouldn't trouble my laptop (they never

Just want to say I'm hit with this bug too, running a Dell-inspiron
1525n. Previously no problems (under Karmic) with gnome do. Suspend and
hibernate both work from the power-manager applet. Shutdown works from
gnome-do.

i dint know if it helps anyone, but after getting hit with this bug, i
switched compiz off (as the main ubuntu site acknowledges this helps
some people). i was fortunate enough that this seemed to be a suitable
work-around for me. since receiving the recent (ish) kernel updates, the
xorg update and
just had another freeze. once again, its an intel chipset, and with
compiz disable. it was 'recovering' from the lockscreen / screensaver
mode, and locked up completely.
alt-sysrq-k provided a partial recovery, enough for ctl-alt-backspace to
log me out, which further partially recovered enough fo
well, i just had a freeze while not running compiz. balls! first in a
fortnight though, i was coming out of hibernation, the screenzaver came
up before i logged in, i tapped the touchpad quickly to disturb the
screensaver... and freeze!
on a dell inspiron 1525n running pre-installed ubuntu, upgrad
alt-sys-k doesnt respond straight away, nor every time. in fact. i heard
about the potential for modifying xorg, but i dont wanna mess with that
shizzle. so i installed the proposed xorg update, but it still freezes
on me, which is when i said 'buggers to compiz'. im off compis until

and it happened again today.
dmesg just tells me theres busy inodes on changed media, but i noticed
that a partition i had mounted was also unmounted when this happened.
so perhaps hardy is unmounting things from my /media folder? i can
ermount the drives, but not the dvd drive without rebooting
it happened again! i rebooted, and the drive came back. then listening
to the mp3's through amarok caused the following dmesg | tail:

ha! it happened again. i was listening to a dvd of mp3 files, and the
drive just unmounted. im running hardy heron on a packard bell r4360,
and the dvd drive (the third its had) is an NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A.

i have the same problem with 8:4, hardy heron. when watching dvd's
(protected and otherwise), about 30-40 minutes into viewing, the dvd it
randomly unmounts both the dvd, and the dvd drive. 'sudo mount -a'
doesnt restore the drive, but powering down for 10 minutes and
rebooting does.
