Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero
When burning data files with long names, Brasero often helpfully asks to rename them for Microsoft Windows compatibility. I noticed yesterday however that this sometimes means truncating the file names, such that the file extension is removed, and Windows therefore doesn't know what the file type is. For example, burning an mp3 music file as data. If the file is called "favourite_artist_debut_album_year_of_release_long_song_name.mp3", brasero will truncate it to"favourite_artist_debut_album_year_of_release_long_song_name.m". It would be more useful if brasero could identify what the file extension is (recognise the .mp3 as the extension for example) and truncate everything before the last dot. Steps to reproduce: Create an mp3 file with a ridiculously long name. Burn as data. Tell brasero to truncate for windows compatibility. Put in windows computer (tested with vista). Witness vista not know what's going on. Let me know if you need more info! ** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741053 Title: rename files for windows compatibility removes file extension, breaks windows compatibility. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
