With all due respect, I protest the closing of this bug report. There is
no ".crash" file that I could submit. Indeed, the /var/crash directory
contains nothing but the ".lock" file.
If I should gather further information for you to deal with this bug,

I seem to get different output from Gutsy final. There's still a chance
that compiz successfully activates, but the effects are gone on the next
login. Usually the Desktop Effects won't activate at all. I attached two

@Amaranth
You certainly know the inner workings better than I do, but I'm not
convinced this is actually glxinfo. Running "glxinfo" from a terminal
produces no segfault whatsoever (output attached), while running
"compiz.real --replace" leads to a system freeze (with no output at all)

First, thank you for your kind reply. I didn't intend to criticise the ubuntu
developers for not answering this bug report. I understand very well that it's
beyond their options to try and fix bugs in binary device drivers without
access to source code.
I'm sorry, however, that I can
Confirmed. Updating to 0.5.9-1ubuntu2~feisty1 fixed this bug for me.
Thanks a lot!

Although supposedly duplicates of this one, neither bug #97520 nor bug
#97557 are fixed on my feisty system, running Gnome and network-manager
0.6.4-6ubuntu7. It seemed to work after upgrading to 0.6.4-6ubuntu7, but
after the next restart, it was just the way it was before.

In Feisty Fawn, Gaim fails to autoconnect to ICQ account on startup

No, removing the packages "network-manager" and "network-manager-gnome"
is a workaround for this bug. It's also a workaround for bug #97520,
Gaim being unable to autoconnect on startup. Of course it's not a fix
for either bug.
