I have a GPS reference clock that has been working fine with legacy ntp
on Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS for several years.
Upon upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS the legacy ntp package was replaced
with ntpsec and ntp no longer recognizes that there is a pps source.

Switching kernels is a PITA as this is a headless machine and I need to
find an unused monitor and keyboard.
But I would recommend that you not do anything more at this time with

7. Downgrading to an older kernel seems to fix the screen tearing / system

touchpad works again. It must've been something other than the kernel

unfortunately that bug has come back. It just took longer to manifest
itself after booting. It also affects recognition of the power state and
the brightness buttons, which I hadn't noticed before. --Jim

After today trying `do-release-upgrade -d` on an iMac running Kubuntu
20.10, the system now fails to boot, staying at the initial Mac white
screen.
(Trying to manually chroot/update-grub or using Boot-Repair does not
solve the problem.)

I tried many different ways to resolve this issue manually adding and
removing modules or editing driver files as suggested in different
forums and it didn't work (I only have a basic knowledge of Linux)
anyway I'm pleased to say that it is working again from Kernel 5.4.0-67.

I shut down, then reinstalled from usb. All up and running ok. I didn't
want to go through the MS Windows setup (which I find particularly
irksome, cumbersome and intrusive) which is probably why the Windows
cache contained the metadata.
I only sent the failure through in case there were any bugs
