How big an impact this problem has related to how the Ubuntu user base is and
how Linux/Unix experienced they are.
If Ubuntu is for the Linux/Unix savvy who know that they can open a terminal
and "sudo shutdown" then fine we have a low impact.
If Ubuntu is pitched at all levels of user then, as h
The Open Office quickstart tool is clearly having an impact.
Following on from the above post when I shutdown this afternoon, initially it

I have Ooffice installed and I use Quickstarter.

If that allows a shutdown then we have our suspect.

Chris,
I am not sure that 544139 applies. My netbook has an Atom processor which does
not support VT. Also nothing else fails to wok just the inability to shutdown
the system via the standard methods without the need to open up a terminal.

I had this bug. It caused my ext3 filesystem that it was attempting to
shrink, instaling karmic alongside jaunty with dual-boot, to crash. The
fsck -y /dev/sda5 took over 18 hours to complete to remove all the
errors.
For this reason I think the bug should have a higher importance than
medium!

To add insult to injury inserting my E169 kills NetworkManager.
I have to remove my E169 stick before I can restart NetworkManager without
having to reboot the system.
Using the commands above I can start NM but the applet does not come back
properly and a reboot it needed to bring NM back fully.

FIX! - By changing the printer driver to "Generic" - "Raw Queue" I can now

Why this should work rather than a device specific driver I have no idea.
Why this issue should show itself as a certificate error is the bug.

But there is no printing happening.
What is the cure for this Local authentication issue?
