With much playing this morning, my printer entry in /etc/cups/printers.conf is:
<Printer iP4300>
Info iP4300
DeviceURI ipp://10.10.10.5/printers/iP4300
State Idle
StateTime 1241081295
Accepting Yes
Shared No
JobSheets none none
QuotaPeriod 0
PageLimit 0
KLimit 0
OpPolicy default
ErrorPolicy retry-job
</Printer>

The DeviceURI was messed about with manually. The "Verify" button now
verifies the print share.

Now I can connect to the printer queue and try to print; prints
"complete" but do not actually print. The go into a printing black hole.
