Thank you for kindly answering, I already solved the problem. It was in fact a
faulty hard disk, I had to buy a new one. It seemed unlikely at first 'cause I
installed windos on the same hd and it worked. Thankfully kubuntu was more
sensitive or I could have ended up loosing a lot of work.

Nothing much to add, excpet for the files I suppose the ubuntu-bug ubiquity
command has sent. The installer seems to crash during the system installation
(I mean, after partitioning and copying files). I did everything by the book,
first time I got any problems installing
I just installed 9.04 and the problem's solved.

Hi, I'm the original reporter. Problem is I won't upgrade to 8.10 till
kde 4 is a little more developed, which I heard should happen by feb.
2009. If there's way to test the new version of synaptics without
installing the whole distribution, please let me know.
