Referring to Stephan Schnitzer workaround ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/226433/comments/7 ): it works fine for me too, after downgrading the touchpad works with scrolling and everything. gsynaptics also works fine. I recently tried to downgrade to the gutsy version (0.14.6-0ubuntu10) only the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package, leaving the other packages in the xorg suite to their hardy version: the touchpad works, except for vertical and horizontal scrolling. I don't think that could depend on xorg.conf, 'cause it always worked for me in past versions, but I also tried some fine-tuning on it without any results. Moreover, gsynaptics exits with an error, asking me to put the "ShmConfig" option to "on" in xorg.conf, which already is.
