Same as the rest got this after returning. But wanted to add one thing
nobody did comment about is that I could keep *show/hide my password*!
That's a security issue if you do not know yet you can use alt+f2 + r to
get rid of the window.

#4 worked for me (lucid) too! It can be slightly shorter though with the
--compile option of apt-get:
sudo apt-get --compile source pgadmin3
sudo dpkg -i pgadmin3_1.10.2-1_i386.deb

I did the following to get X started in a not perfect state but atleast
better than commandline:
sudo su
cd /usr/lib
ln -s libdrm.so.2.3.1 libdrm_intel.so.1
sudo killall gdm
gdm
X started in low grafical mode so 1024x768 instead of 1280x800
Waiting for a real sollution here ;-)

30 min ago after todays upgrade I am unable to get into my gnome
desktop. I can login via gdm but then I get a coloured screen with a
mouse and nothing comes up.
I can restart the xserver with [ctrl-alt-backspace] but it does not change
anything.
[ctrl-Alt-F1] gets me to tty
Standard Hardy start-up doesn't start xrandr correctly (I get a copy of
my laptop monitor on the external screen) the top screen is also in a
lower resolution than the maximum available. (I guess xorg doesnt detect
it well enough)

root. I go for a coffee.
Now someone just has to type sudo -i to gain root access and screw up my
computer. Is this a normal structure
