Aha THAT FIXES IT ! Applying the above 2 patches to kernel source from
latest ubuntu gutsy fixes the bug without anything else required ! No
other dependencies. There were some rejects which I merged by hand, but
rest assured no other code changes were required ..

I can confirm that this still happens on a IBM Thinkpad R40 with radeon

Can confirm this, partially. The latest update broke networking on my
machine also. Sound still works (although keeps getting set to muted on
each boot - a separate bug).
I can make networking work again by changing /etc/network/interfaces
from:

I seem to be having this same problem, almost. I was able to get the
screen back by pressing Fn+F3 (the combination that turns the screen
off) then just the Fn key. Interestingly enough, when I tried it the
first two times, the screen was blank. The third time it was not

Attached is a patch against the ubuntulooks engine's
ubuntulooks_progressbar_create_cell() to create a Cairo surface of the
same type as the target rather than an RGB24 image surface. With this
patch applied, Firefox runs starts fine with the Human theme.

version of wine, the world of warcraft game periodically freezes.

Does not fix it for me either. I do have some more info though. After
Xorg starts, I can login (blindly) and then run the xrandr commands from
the console. It seems that the code for each mode is different when the
external monitor is not connected. See attached output with 194 driver.

Workaround with new driver 100.14.19. In /etc/default/acpi-support,
change to:
MODULES="uvcvideo"
SAVE_VBE_STATE=false
POST_VIDEO=false
Suspend and Hibernate both work as long as the parameters above are set.
