It's hard to say for sure. :-/ My problem hasn't resurfaced since I replaced the faulty memory module. Considering how few people have actually reported this particular problem and the fact that my problem appears to have gone away (not a single peep in /var/log/kern*) my gut instinct tells me you are facing a hardware issue of some sort and not a general bug in the kernel.
