I'm having trouble with my modem. It
seems to be a winmodem, and these are not likely to run under Linux.
Under ms dos, it's at COM1, under Linux I
received these information with ls -l /dev/modem: /dev/ttyS1But
isn't it a fact that ttyS1 is the same as COM2 under ms dos.
Is my modem

red hat 6.x... I've just started learning about them at work and would like
to see if I can speed up my modem a little.

Hello all,
Linux Newbe... I am having problems Identifying my Modem.
I use Modemtool and select ttys0
Then I use wvdial and it tells me it does not Identify the Modem.
I am kind of at a loss,

Is there a way to check to see if the COM

A while ago some very helpful types on this list gave me some clues that
resulted in fixing the sound problems I had with my Linux machine at
home. I am a newbie, I guess, but I have learnt heaps about Linux, and
in particular modules, and dependencies thru that exercise.
Now I have a rea

Missed out on the initial thread, sorry. Can you post the serial listings

I was speaking metaphorically. I'm using Kppp. I can query the modem
for ATI info

Try poking around to see which irq your modem has.
Use setserial to set the irq assigned to the port your
Hi all,
I ran into a weird problem while I was upgrading a system.
The system previously had P133 with win95/rh6.0 dual boot.
It had a 33.6k modem which worked fine in both windows and linux without
any trouble at all.
After I upgraded the system to P3-550 with winnt/rh6.1 dual boot,

Can anyone help
Yeah, Jenn, I'm quasi-certain it's the BIOS, but I already tried resetting
to original configuration and that didn't help. The big mistake, really,
was not taking note of the original configuration BEFORE I installed the
hard drive.
What I don't get though, is the fact that Seyon sees and uses th
