You can, if you have talks muted or set your synthesizer to none before
starting the FM radio application. At last that's how I got
it to work on my Nokia E73 Mode. Really suck

Are you using a wired headset with your E72? The wire acts as the antenna.
The FM radio in my N82 works pretty well. I can either let it search for
stations or enter the frequency directly. Also, I can let it find stations
in my area by entering a location, but that didn't seem to list all of
