In Nederland the Stolpersteine project has caught on and there is a database. I
have been looking at entering this into OSM, just didnt get around to it yet.
It would be nice to have a single agreed-upon tagging scheme. Otherwise I will
copy the dominant German scheme, because Germany is the hom

Bah, 8 votes on such a specialized feature is a nice score ;-).
Maybe you could have advertised on hot@ to gain more traction.

lanes:forward and lanes:backward is definitely correct here. No need to
make a whole new tag for it, and I really don't see how it's too tedious to
map this way (plus adding something like hgv:lanes:forward=no|designated
for the situation).

I am not sure. Once I get around to it I am sure I can find out by contacting
the right people. I think they are also registered as gravestones by the
funeral branche.

Done some more reading. Stolpersteine are not just metal plaques on some brick,
they are actually stones placed in the pavement. A Stolperstein is an object in
its own right. I think memorial=Stolperstein is fitting. With capital and all.
