Yes, it definitely added the stars, as does running the
regular "spamassassin" executable. I'll check into the CVS version, but
I'm not sure I' comfortable with 'beta' code.
Oh well...

Yup, spamd also has a -D flag -- don't use -d if you're using -D though, or
it'll detach from the terminal and you won't see much! Just start spamd from
the command line in the same way it's normally started, except remove -d and add
-D
Given that spamassassin is looking in the right places thou
I did it from the root account and got:

"/root/.spamassassin/user_prefs" for user prefs file

Yes, it can go into the local.cf file, and should work there. Can you run
spamassassin -D -t < msg > msg.out
That should dump some diagnostic info to stderr -- could you do that and see if
you notice anything odd like it's reading config files from the wrong place or
something?

Actually, we aren't using any user_pref files - just the
system local.cf mentioned below. Can the spam_level_stars be put into that
local.cf file? If not, is there a system-wide file that it needs to go
into?
Thanks for the tips,

Yes, except for user_prefs, since spam_level_stars is a use

It certainly worked for changing other params in

I have set this up with "spam_level_stars 1" in the
/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file, but SA doesn't seem to to pick up the
settings as I don't see the stars in the header of the email judged as SPAM. I'm
using version 2.20 of SA.
