Yup, spamd also has a -D flag -- don't use -d if you're using -D though, or
it'll detach from the terminal and you won't see much!  Just start spamd from
the command line in the same way it's normally started, except remove -d and add
-D

Given that spamassassin is looking in the right places though, it seems likely
spamd will too....  Perhaps there's a permissions problem on your local.cf or
one of the directories or something?  What uid is spamd starting up under?
