Yes, it definitely added the stars, as does running the regular "spamassassin" executable.  I'll check into the CVS version, but I'm not sure I' comfortable with 'beta' code.

spamass-milter looks for certain headers and copies them into the
message.  The spam level stars header is not one of them.
If you are using that program, you might want to investigate
the cvs version.

Try piping an email message into spamc and see if it adds the stars.
