Re: [RE-wrenches] DC Bonding battery systems

Hi Bill, I have thought about it also. The ground fault detection interruption system does elevate one of the conductors to voltage. This makes it hazardous. However, it also protects from a PV hot to ground arc fault. There are three types of arc faults in PV systems, the ground fault arc, the

I can see your point but I know from direct experience that the GFCI in an XW system will trip during a close lightning strike. I have seen this along with a few clients. The XW system has a series of escalating faults that will shut down the inverter if the strike is close. To me it is worth it

[RE-wrenches] expanding OutBack SkyBox

Hi WrenchesI have installed an OutBack SkyBox for a customer with 13 290 watt solar panels feeding it. At this point the Skybox is installed without batteries connected the main service panel in his garage, with a 100 amp breaker feeding a house subpanel. My plan has been to put in a smaller crit

Wrenches: Here is a question that has bothered me for some time: If one is using a GFD (ground fault detection) breaker on a PV feeder(s) to a battery inverter system, the state of the industry is to use a breaker with an extra 0.5 or 1 amp pole. This section of the breaker connects, or bonds

Hi Jeff, I am not going to guess if this will work, it should. I use XW's because they start anything I have come across. If you do this, make sure but SW's have the latest and same firmware. There were problems with stacked SW's early on in their development. Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar "we

I have a macerator in my basement, I just measured it, and I was hitting roughly 1100 watts peak for 1 sec.  I don't know what the Hp rating is, but its 120 vac, so I'm guessing 1/2 Hp.   Do they have to have 2 Hp?  That seems over kill. The one we have does a great job on a toilet, shower, and

About 3 years ago i installed a single Magnum 4024 on a 1.5 Hp hydrolic pump, the DC surge was 275 amps, i was impressed, as far as i know the system is still functioning today. It is used only a few times a month. I measured with peak hold on Greenly clamp amp meter. On Mon, Jul 22, 2019, 9:26 A

Hey Esteemed Wrenches, So I recently built a power trailer with a single 4 KW (4048) Schneider SW for a client with a moderate cabin lifestyle. But he lives on a high hill and even though his 2 HP Macerator is only rated at 15 amps continuous that baby starts up with a whopping kick - probab

I'm surprised I did not get more of a response on this thread. Is anyone else adding onto M series microinverter systems? I'm starting to get a lot of requests to add more panels to older microinverter systems. Using the IQ combiner seems to make a lot of sense. The existing M series Envoy can just
