Due to the voltage we use Grid tie PV we will only put our wire in conduit
and old school rule is DC runs better through stranded vs solid core. I do
see allot of contractors use romex for there enphase type installs but that
AC there too we use conduit. You will need to have a disconnect
Wrenches,
In New Orleans there are a lot of raised houses (on piers, etc). Assuming
we kept the array source/output circuits in conduit on the exterior of the
house, would it be Code-permissible to switch to Romex for any DC runs
underneath the house? e.g. to an inverter on the opposite exterior w
FYI, the batteries are Discover Energy EV4DA-A (VRLA - AGM, I believe).

Good point on the battery monitor. It would be easy to add a Magnum BMK to
system and get the battery history. Also the ARC (advanced remote control)
stores fault history so you can see when the LBCO occurred along with battery
voltage etc.

Hi:
Figuring out what happened after the fact is a very big challenge and
always involves a lot of cost for both time invested and ultimately the
new batteries.
Things can be made a lot simpler, even preventative, by using a small
battery monitor which remembers battery V, I, SOC, etc
Interesting mystery, and great discussion.
I'm leaning towards a battery cell problem too. Corey mentions 3 strings of
4 "12v" batteries -- what are these 12v batteries exactly?
I've seen issues in the past that convince me a couple parallel battery
strings are a good thing (but not too many string
How about the possibility of the batteries being overcharged, thus a ruined
battery bank?
I believe magnum recommends a diversion load controller with a dump load and
using the frequency shift as a back up.

Remember this is an AC coupled system so it does not sound like anything except
the inverter is connected to the battery. No charge controller or accessories
are needed for ac coupling.
In an AC coupled system the inverter/charger is connected to the grid all the
time and should be in Float mod
It is important to remember even the inverter will draw some DC from the
battery in the "OFF" mode. Typically it's like 150ma or so which would take a
long time to discharge a large bank. Also the inverter would completely turn
off astound 5v, 10v and 20v respectively for 12v, 24v and 48v models
All magnum auxiliaries are battery direct ( AGS,BMK) so they drain the battery.

Wrenches,
I’m guessing that there is a problem with the battery, or the user just over
discharged this bank. I doubt the inverter is at fault here.
Reverse charge batteries are common in two cases from what I’ve seen. You can
take any battery, discharge it to zero volts and reverse charge i
I've never seen an inverter not disconnect on low voltage. My
understanding is that they just can't operate below a certain threshold.
However, I have seen behavior as described caused by DC loads that did
not have a LVD in place. Were there any other DC connections to the
battery bank besides
Corey,
In a somewhat similar situation years ago: a client had installed
a generator/inverter/battery system at an off grid cabin. The
system was intended to use the Trace SW4024 inverter to maintain
AC to support the generator's battery charger; then send an
Almost all modern charge controllers and inverters etc have a low voltage
