That book was one of the first things to cross my mind, since the construction of the panels sounded very much like the method described in that book. We may never know for sure, but that Earth4Energy book is so full of bad info that we are bound to see problems in the future.

This doesn't apply to your specific project, but a heads up in general - we "thought" we had a concrete roof and were looking to use masonary fasteners, but it turned out to be really weak "grout" that was an overpour over steel deck to serve as firestop and drainage slope.   sometimes concrete

Last I checked, the updated manual was in a "members only" section of the website - I think that they want to encourage folks to become members (and rightly so).  Probably more of a "we need the ###s of members when we advocate on the hill" rather than a "why buy the cow when the milk is free?
