Buyers please be aware that this is the TIGed lowest-end model that became
the XO-5 in 93/94. It's a 700c-wheeled bike which resembled the rash of
hybrids on the market at that time. It was my first Bridgestone and a good
one, but it bears little resemblance to the later lugged XO-3s, or any

Every frame I've purchased from Rivendell has been worth every penny. The
first was around '99 or so, drove down to RBWWHQ to pick up a Heron Road.
Not sure but I think it was $950, maybe as high as $1050. That frame

I want to add on to my minorly (I hope minorly) snarky remark about buying
a Surly LHT. I have four Rivendells and I agree all four were worth every
penny. I always wanted a Bridgestone XO-1 back in the early 90s, but never
bought one and was bummed when the company went down in the summer of 19
Yes. Exactly. Each time I get on the Ram or Saluki, I remind myself just
how comfortable they are, but it is the Road that I get on more than the
others. It's my all time favorite too.
I've really enjoyed the posts in this thread. Thanks to all who have
replied.

I got carried away from the original thread intent:
1995 AllRounder $900
2001 Road Custom $1700
2006 Quickbeam $900
2009 Legolas $2000
...each a bargain. They are all worth more to me now than when they were
new.

LOVE the title on the auction, but I don't get selling them in a lot
like that. Very few people are that size, and even fewer are going to
want all three bikes.

the legolas can be gotten today as well. just a nod and a wink, and one will
appear.

one thing to remember about customs is that their resale value is comparatively
lousy. a custom only has extra value to the original purchaser. jan will tell
you the most valuable rene herse bikes are standard models, not the customs.
maybe you can get a custom that is a copy of an atlantis f

I don't remember what I paid for my custom but it has been the best money I've
ever spent on a bike.

Well, my Sam Hillborne was 1 grand and that included shipping for the
frame, fork, headset, seatpost, and bottom bracket. I got it on one of the
member emails and jumped on it. I think it is a very inexpensive bike for
what I got and worth every penny. At 1500 bucks it would be a deal.

Still kicking myself for cancelling that Hunqapillar preorder at Harris for

Hello rbw gang,
I have a 110mm technomic deluxe in good condition that is a little too long and
a little too low. I would really like to trade it for a standard technomic
stem at 100mm or even 90mm to get the bars up higher. A talluxe would be fine
too but I would rather have a 25.4 stem cla
In 1982 I bought my son his first racing bike, a lugged Columbus standard
gauge Bianchi, which we upgraded to campy NR. I think the whole thing
costs about $500. My daughter is still riding it, with the original group.
In 1984 I bought a Trek 620, a Reynolds 531 sport touring bike, for $530
Let us all praise Rivendell road bikes ("road" -- dedicated spritely rides
for pavement).
Very late 1994 custom: $950.
April, 1999 Joe custom: ~$1,800
March, 2003 Curt custom: ~$2,300.
I could not afford a custom nowadays.

I like that so many Riv employee builds feature black rims, hubs and other
components.
My usual finish preference runs staunchly silver, but I think I might be
coming around to the dark side.

I ride a '95 Independent Fabrication mtb with studded tires during the
northern Idaho winters. The rear wheel has an WI ENO (eccentric) hub for
use as a single speed and I've found fixed winter riding to be exhilarating
and sobering all at the same time. In summer the tires get switched out

Hey, no bashing the 1992 XO-3! Yes, yes, it was the low end of the 92 XOs,
TIG welded (gasp!) and with 700C wheels (double gasp!) Yes, yes, it will
never be as cool as the 26" wheeled XOs. As for "resembling the rash of
hybrids", it clearly stated in the 92 catalog that it was "Better than your

Now now, Shawn :) $180 is a fair price, and that's a nice bike. The '94
TIGed 700c XO-4 is pretty sweet, too, and quite rare. I've never seen one
other than new-at-the-dealer back in the day.
