Rim and tire choice and air pressure in tires make a big difference.
Riv probably uses what they consider the more common size. This, plus
the fact stand over does not make much difference in how a bike rides
is why I think stand over should be way down on the list when choosing
a bike.

A competent framebuilder who does repairs should be able to simply
replace the whole steering column. Jack Franklin here in Ohio charges
about $85 to do so. http://home.windstream.net/franklinframe/repairs.html

How short is too short?
Have you considered the Nitto Dirt Drop, Periscopa, or Technomic

It's not about the bar reach; if the steerer is too short for the
frame you can't install a headset. The only real options are to
replace the steerer or replace the whole fork.

Yep. Harold doesn't have much of a choice here . get another
fork or have the steering tube replaced. He made the wrong
choice .. join the club.
How much is too short though? If it's a matter of mm's, it depends on
his headset. Maybe a low stack height one would do, I think the Tan

Give the size of yours also. I know it has a diamond crotch, but if
you lay them down you can pinpoint where the crotch seam would be.

These came stock on my Pashley Guvnor (in white). Nice tires, but I
switched to Schwalbe Marathons for better flat resistance and more

They are decent tires. Not great, but more than adequate, bargain-
priced, and available in some neat colors (whitewalls, all-creme,
etc).

Around town - commuting and errands - I almost always put everything
up front and high. (My commuter has a passtow rack with a slightly
modified Swift Industries Cetma Porteur bag - holds up to 40 lbs!) I
find front high load easier to access when making frequent stops.

Rivendell does orange better than any other I've seen, no question.
It's one of those colors that is easy to get wrong but amazing when

Probably not.

Bridgestone recalled a bunch of the XO forks- make sure the one you have
isn't one of the "defective" ones before doing anything to the fork you just
bought. I can't recall how to identify the new vs recalled fork is off
hand- maybe someone else can. But it seems the problem was in the crown.

I'll be in Seattle next Monday for about a week, and I'm hoping to
have my recently coupled Saluki built back up by then to bring along.
But, if I can't get it finished, are there any shops in Seattle that

Some of the RBW bikes have braze-ons that match this rack. If they are
present, it is perhaps less fiddley to use the dedicated braze-ons rather
than the canti bosses. My dad's Saluki, for example, has the braze-ons for
the Mini and I would pick it over the M12.
