Probably a combination of tire size and where they measure--since the top tube 
slopes slightly, it can vary a bit...

thanks much appreciated, Im surprised by how much the standovers vary
from the info on Riv's site, maybe its just tire diameters vary a lot.
My 61cm atlantis is closer to a 87cm standover with 35mm panaracers,
much taller than the 85.1 on the website.
