I agree, I try to avoid heavy when possible, but 80% of additional weight is
in components. I swapped the heavy post that came on my Clementine for a much
lighter one and even then chopped about 5" of excess post off!
Lightness is far more important in my mind then BB or even seat height, but
Can & Should are different paths.I had commented "heavy" earlier
regarding the weight. As a father of a 10yr old girl and a 14yr old son, I
have seen, first hand, the difference bike weight makes in my kids desire
to cycle.I am not weight obsessed but I don't want to pay a penalty either.

Thanx, I'll figure out how to get pictures in here eventually! LOL
Those Rat Trap Pass tire are pretty nice, but I think maybe a bit precious for
a cruiser!? The tires that are on there a Continentals and even those weren't
cheap when I bought them! That bike is setup for bombing around worry fr

I can try Patrick, but this Goggle group thing is pretty primitive. I tried
posting a link earlier, but it got messed up & since I can't go back and edit
it it's a bit frustrating.

Joe: I've thought of a Townie. In fact, Catie did have a Townie, bought for
her 10th birthday, but her 12 year old self despised the pink paint and
white saddle that her 10 year old self loved, so we sold it and I got her
the DB. But perhaps she'll be interested in it again.

Patrick is trying to get the saddle down low enough that the kid can put one
foot down at stops while seated (I didn't realize this was the goal earlier).
An Electra Townie "flatfoot technology" might be the ticket here.

There's no real challenge to building that Trek cruiser frame, I've built a
dozen similar bikes and worked on many more. About as simple as it gets really.
Don't know what your parts stash looks like, but if it's anywhere close to mine
you probably have half of what you would need already and th
Actually, I see that the Surly LHT comes in 26" wheel models too, with 47
mm bb drop -- so all is well if I go that route.
I just weighed her cheap Diamond Back (aluminum frame) and it weighs 34 1/2
lb, so we have a pretty low bar here.

Yes, I see that the smaller Atlantises have 48 mm bb drops, compared to,
what, 40 mm for your old steel hardtails? OTOH, the Long Haul Trucker has a
78 mm drop compared to the 80 of the 700C Atlantises; I've toyed with the
idea of getting a disk frameset and installing wheels for 2"+ 559 tires:

Thanks. We'll see; there are many, many possibilities, and one of them is
that Catie tell me, "Dad, don't bother, I'm really not all that
interested."

This won't cost nearly as much as a Clementine, even if I have to get
wheels custom built for it, and buy Rat Trap Pass tires!
I haven't even looked at it in person yet, and I may not buy it, but if (1)
it does have more bb drop than a typical mtb, and (2) it isn't as huge a
tank as I fear it migh
