I have a 65 cm Rambouillet that I bought from the original owner about 4 years
ago. The previous owner said that the chain stay dropout had broken and that
it had been repaired by Rivendell and that they had repainted the entire frame
including the fork at that time. The bikes wheelset and driv

And to be clear, I know this is a very rare occurrence and not a Ram design
issue. Not saying it is a problem like that. Just that some have broke and

Tough crowd!!! ;) Ha ha!
Sorry for the vagueness of the thread.
I knew that the broken Ram owners would know what I meant.
There have been a few, but some, online reported dropouts broken during
rides and I was just curious what hub width they were riding at the time.

Unfortunately for me, Joe, knowing something and remembering to know what I

I run a 132mm spaced hub and my Rambouillet dropout has not broken.
(It's a 130 Ultegra shimano road hub that I added a 2mm spacer to and
redished the wheel. There is 1mm less axle protruding from each side, but
it seems to sit in the dropout just fine anyway. If this is unsafe let me
know)

I'm fairly certain you're right about the intent of the thread. I'm also fairly
certain titling it as though there's a broken Rambouillet out there because of
rear hub size was a weird way to go about it. A Google search is going to
generate this topic as if it's a real-world failure.

Could it be that Lum has a Rambouillet and is weighing his options in terms
of rear hub usage? He is possibly concerned about unnecessarily stressing
the right-side drop out and wants to find out from anyone who owns/has
owned a Rambouillet and who has had a broken drop-out what size hub they

So Lum, did your chainstay/dropout break? You never indicated whether it did or
not.

Thanks, Andy!
I’m trying to see if one hub width over the other that the bike accommodates
might be part of the problem.
I have run mine at 135 over the last year since I got it. It did not have many
miles on it before that.
Not sure if hub size has anything to do with that or not.

Haha. Nicely done. That elicited an out loud chuckle.
