Could it be that Lum has a Rambouillet and is weighing his options in terms of rear hub usage? He is possibly concerned about unnecessarily stressing the right-side drop out and wants to find out from anyone who owns/has owned a Rambouillet and who has had a broken drop-out what size hub they were using. Lum would then collate that information before deciding on the safest size hub to use.
This is my take on the seemingly vague original inquiry I am often wrong. IanA (who has never had a broken drop out).
